Hard to get - is it the same elsewhere?

Post by Mika »

I´ve tried to get these with no hope. Are these rarities in the nature or why they are not exported more? Other species comes frequently from same regions. Are these rarrites in other parts of the world`s LFS too? What could be the going price?

Gymnallabes typus
Channalabes apus

They are a little more difficult to come by in the US, but I would not consider these particularly hard to get (I think all three species show up now and again on Aquabid).

Synodontis contractus is one of my favorate fish. I have not seen it around for a few years. In my past experience they ship very poorly.

I've seen them in captivity only two times.

30 years of fishkeeping, mind.
so depending where you live this fish CAN be very hard to get....

needless to say, those ended up here in my tank.

it's a very nice fish, but it's very fragile for a Syno and it doesn't have the longevity of most other Syno's IME.....

I received 4 Chanallabes apus that turned out to be Gymnallabes. Somebody mustve misread the papers and i received the 4 for the price of 1 at 6 or 9 euros retail i think.
I think everybody heres pleco crazy thats why theres no demand for african cats...very sad.
cheers
