Scientific Name Gagata gagata  (Hamilton, 1822)
Common Name Indisk Malle (Denmark)
Type Locality Fresh water rivers and estuaries of Bengal.
Synonym(s) Pimelodus gagata
Pronunciation Gah gah tah - gah gah tah
Etymology The generic name comes from the local name of the fish (keyakatta).

Size 200mm or 7.9" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification Head and body silvery, without pattern. Fins, except caudal fin, black distally, with clear basal portions; caudal fin entirely clear. Dorsal spine extending well past adipose-fin origin when adpressed. Anal fin with 5-6 simple rays, 11 branched rays. Premaxilla with 4 rows of teeth. Most similar to G. melanopterus in coloration and having the highest gill raker counts among its congeners.
