Common Name Tanganjika Stinging Catfish
Type Locality Lake Tanganyika, east Africa.
Synonym(s) Chrysichthys cyclurus, Lophiobagrus lestradei
Pronunciation sigh kloo russ
Etymology Lophiobagrus: The name comes from the broad, depressed anterior region of the fish, which reminded Poll of the angler fish (Lophius piscatorius).

Feeding Feed on chironomid larvae, beetle larvae and small crustaceans with occasional ingestion of vegetable material.
Furniture Likes to hide amongst rocks during the day, active nocturnally.
Breeding Unreported. Care of the eggs and young is probably done by mouthbrooding solitary males.
