|Identification||P. obscurum lacks cheek odontodes which are presnt on P. wertheimeri and lacks an adipose fin which is present in the latter species. It has a longer dorsal fin (8-11 rays versus 7) than other members of its genus.|
|Sexing||Unknown. Males lack odontodes on the cheek.|
|Distribution||Upper Rio Uruguai, southern Brazil
