Type Locality	Rio Canoas at road from Anita Garibaldi to Abdon Batista, about 27°39'S, 51°05'W, Santa Catarina, Brazil.

Etymology	(Greek)Pogon=beard + (Greek)op=eye + (Greek)poma=lid, operculum. obscurum meaning dark, an allusion to the dark coloration.
Species Information
Size	249mm or 9.8" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification	P. obscurum lacks cheek odontodes which are presnt on P. wertheimeri and lacks an adipose fin which is present in the latter species. It has a longer dorsal fin (8-11 rays versus 7) than other members of its genus.
Sexing	Unknown. Males lack odontodes on the cheek.
