Type Locality | Río Motatán, at the bridge 22 kilometers north of Motatán, Venezuela. |
Etymology | Dupouyichthys: Named after W Dupouy, a former director of the Museo de Ciencias Naturales in Caracas, Venezuela. Named sapito after the common name of this species in the Maracaibo Basin. A literal translation would be Sapo, which is Spanish for toad.....and the -ito suffix would indicate a small toad. |
