Re: River tank
Unfortunately I moved and had to break down the tank and it has never been the same. I will take a picture of its current state and I have been thinking of "redoing" this tank.

Re: Coping with power-cuts
I experience numerous power outages... pretty much on a weekly basis. I have gone with out power for 5 days in the winter and used Shanes method of water movement(water changes)..... and battery powered air stones. Luckily I am able to keep the house warm enough with a wood stove in the winter ...

Re: Cooling A Tank
I have also used the frozen bottle method on a small reef tank with great success. I could drop the temp of the tank by about 5 to 7 degrees. The fans are a great idea but would work much better if you had them blowing across the tank. Evaporative cooling works much better with lower humidity. Is ...

Re: Controlling pH and temp parameters
When I lived in Seattle and had large Planted tanks, I would do very large water changes over 50% on a bi-weekly basis. It never affected the fish. I always noticed the water had a stronger chlorinated smell in the summer as if the municipality added more to prevent algae. I did use a carbon filter ...

how big is the tank? If you are approaching 4 watts per gallon, you will need to add co2 or you will run into lots of algae problems.

Another little thing that may have been mentioned that I missed is the el cheapo tank alarm. When your water reaches it, it sets off an alarm. I think ebay may have them.
Glad you like it. On the tank alarm - can you point me at your "el cheapo" one that is much less than £50/US$50? I'd like to ...

Seachem Flourish™ Excel also works as a dip.... put the plants in a container and overdose for the size of the container at 4 to 1. leave in the solution for about 20 min. and the algae will turn red and die off. you can do this at a ratio of 2 to 1 in the tank for about two weeks with similar ...

Re: 2 meter Orinoco basin tank setting up...
I think you should use a little sandpaper(60 grit) on the plastic and then secure the moss to the plastic with either fishing line or better yet, cotton thread. The thread will rot a way and leave the moss which by then will have anchored itself to the roughed up plastic if the panaque hasn't got to ...
