Older Male Bristlenose (normal coloration)
Hey, I need a medium sized (3-4 in) male bristly. I would have liked to avoid ordering online, but I was having a lot of trouble and need him urgently, so I decided to go to a place where I know the people know what they're doing. If you know an online store that regularly provides good service and ...

Re: My First Ancistrus Spawn
I'm pretty sure an algae pebble farm can be made by removing some pebbles from the tank r acquiring new ones, putting them in some water, and leaving them in the sun. The idea is that algae grows on the rocks, which you can then switch with pebbles still in your tank, providing a steady supply of ...

Everything I've read said that you could just feed regular veggies to the fry; by the time they exhaust the yolk sac they can rasp on veggies like adults. Good luck!

Pygmy loaches do much better in small groups, the larger the better. Since there is only one, it will probably be more timid. I've wanted some for a while, but my LFS never has any

Re: White spot on Ancistrus
Great! I'm sure that the 55 gallon will help with any aggression, especially if it has a cave he can stake out as his "lair". If it does, placing food right out side will probably decrease any tendency to attack other foraging fish, as long as nobody attempts to steal it. Good Luck!

He just looks chubby to me; probably actually a good thing. If he's died since you posted, I'm obviously wrong; don't know about poop color, but my Ancistrus' varies; looks like a Panaque, so should love wood.

Re: White spot on Ancistrus
My Ancistrus is also a little more aggressive now than he used to be, but he's otherwise fine; the spots faded, and he's doing really well. Your Ancistrus looks about the same age as mine, but female; lately, my fish has been keeping his cheek odontodes partially open, which could be related to ...

Re: Peaceful Snail Eaters (Pest Control Required)
I have a Burmese loach (Botia kubotai), and he's fantastic, ate all my snails, only gets to be about three inches long, (and since he's tube shaped he produces hardly any waste), and is very friendly; plays with the corys a lot. If you have fish that like to sit stil a lot, though, he might annoy ...

Re: can anyone help identify this synondontis
My gut instinct is ornatipinnis, but I'm no expert. The markings may change as it gets older, because at that size it's probably not mature, but I'm not sure. Someone else probably knows a lot more than I do.

Re: Cucumber
My bristlenose will take 5 lettuce leaves and eat them all in one night, no joke. He's only three inches long, but he has the appetite of a common pleco! When you feed veggies, they can produce a lot of waste, but the waste isn't as high in ammonia toxicity as the waste of carnivorous fish, since it ...

Thanks, I'll try to culture some. I put some food in a while after the lights turned off when the barbs and loach were asleep, and it was gone this morning, but I don't know who got it. I'm trying to see if the bellies of the fish are noticeably emaciated, but the corys aren't cooperating. Thanks ...

O.K. I tried some defrosted Daphnia, but they didn't take it. Sorry, should have mentioned that in the original post. I'll see if I can get some live food; I'll also try leaving them by themselves as bottom feeders once the fin rot clears up. Do defrosted Daphnia or Cyclops sink? Thanks!

Panda Cory Feeding
I recently acquired 4 panda corys. They are in two separate tanks; two in quarantine with fin rot, (improving thanks to Melafix :d ), and two in the community tank. The problem is, none of them are feeding! I have tried pellets, sinking wafers, freeze-dried tubifex, and algae wafers, but they ...

Re: Catfish Antics: Got a Story?
I transferred some corys to a new tank recently, and left the net I used to catch them in the tank; ignoring the numerous caves, plants and other hidey-holes I had constructed for them, the corys took to resting in a mass huddle in the net! I guess it'll be pretty easy to transfer them back

Postponed treating, now the spots are smaller and less frequent and he's all over the place during the day, climbing on plastic plants and filter intakes, scavenging in the substrate. I think he's recovering, but I'll keep an eye on him.

Re: Ancistrus Ich-like disease, advice needed
I'm running two filters on the tank, either one of which would be more than enough by itself, and I have veggies in there constantly. I'm not treating right now because he's acting fine, but if the problem spreads any more or he starts acting weird, I'm definitely going to take measures.

O.K., I caught him, took him out, and the marks disappeared. I put him back in the water; still gone. I got suspicious, and decided to look at all the pictures of Ancistrus I could find. Sure enough, most had off-white dots and discolored patches. So now what I need to know to be sure it isn't a ...

Re: Cory ID
Corydoras ornatus actually does have a solid line at the base of the caudal fin, but it's body markings are much more defined. I think Corydoras osteocarus is a better bet, in the Cat-eLog pics no black marking at the base of the caudal fin is shown, but after browsing other images I found several ...

Cory Effects on Cherry Barb Fry
O.K., so I accidentally bred my cherry barbs while I was cycling a quarantine tank b-) I guess it's cycled! :-p However, since I wasn't expecting it I didn't take out the parents and they ate all but one of the eggs, larvae, and fry. x( I didn't discover the one remaining until I introduced some ...

MORE PICTURES! :d No abnormal activity, ate some of the sinking cory food, and his algae wafer and all his lettuce so he's getting enough food, very active but very skittish; I used to hand feed him, now if I sit in front of the tank he makes threat displays or swims away. He's been hanging out ...

I agree with Birger, a human-bred long fin variety of the Common Bristlenose (Ancistrus cf. cirrhosus).
