My gut instinct is ornatipinnis, but I'm no expert. The markings may change as it gets older, because at that size it's probably not mature, but I'm not sure. Someone else probably knows a lot more than I do.

I suspect Synodontis sp. hybrid(5), but there are far better qualified members here at identifying fish than me.

Agree with the above two posts. Richard B is a high-level syno buff anyway
so you can trust his opinion a lot.

Re: can anyone help identify this synondontis
Good try but so you know why...A few of the more obvious things... the pattern is wrong even for a juvi ornatipinnis the caudal pattern is always quite bold. The humeral is getting close but the head does not get the small spots like this and does not have the filament on the dorsal this fish has..that is a decora body shape sort of, has the filament decora usually has but the spot pattern is off as well as the humeral is way off. The humeral in synos is like a fingerprint for these fish.My gut instinct is ornatipinnis, but I'm no expert. The markings may change as it gets older, because at that size it's probably not mature, but I'm not sure.
I agree with the hybrid call.
