If you ditch the front, and stick to gentle-mannered species like calvus, there are some more species available, such as the Lophiobagrus species and the extremely pretty Phyllonemus typus. both do fine with any Synodontis species. Although not as visible, their very different outlook and reddish co...

I've had matings and eggs in the past with this species; the male wraps himself almost completely around the female, and the eggs -wich are laid later; internal fertilisation- are minute. unfortunately those were eaten by the other fish, and back then I only had a single tank. fun fish! they can rea...

Spotted Raphaels are very docile. They MIGHT be able to tackle small fish, but rarely do. Pectorale has several Dorads, and in his smaller tank (a 250 liter tank) there's 1 Spotted Raphael (Agamyxis pectinifrons) about 10 cm or so, and also a whole colony of Limia nigrofasciata, that's rapidly multi...

Both the Pleco (Liposarcus) and the Uaru will outgrow your 30G pretty soon..... Common Plecs reach two feet when adult (when given plenty room), and even without plenty room, most specimen that don't die premature pass the 1 or 1,5 foot mark with ease..... Uaru's reach almost 1 foot; they're of a si...

I've had juvenile schall years ago, and they're without spots.....quite easy to pick them from a shipment of juvie-nigrita's wich I did. and they have very light colored whiskers, lighter than their body-color in any case. The color of juvenile schall is much darker, almost chocolate-brown, but I ad...

The fact is that it is all in fun and many catfish hobbyists started with c*****ds before graduating to catfish. On the other hand, Synodontis are usually very safe with big Osacars. They're highly mobile, active around the clock and of all the catfishgenera, perhaps Synodontis is the best to combine with cichlids! It's NOT a surprise that it's one of THE most abundant catfish speciesgroups in the African Rift...

If it's the Burrowing Snail (aka Malaysian trumpet or Melanoides tuberculata) none at all! it's a livebearing snail, and you can be pretty sure a single halfgrown 15mm burrower already spawns..... All the other snailspecies are easy to control, this one however is THE PLAGUE almost 95% of posts abou...

Put it in a woodshavings-filled bucket with a handfull of Buffalo worms or Maggots; they'll clean out the meat and leave the armour intact. I've dried my share of Loricariids and other critters, by using a container filled with that white sand you can buy for your Parkeet, whatever it's called. Mumm...

Hara jerdoni you might take care when rooting around the tank; they have a nasty sting, and IME it's slightly poisonous too.... They're fun to have, but don't boost the temperature. They'll handle it, but it significantly shortens their lifespan....20-23'C is good enough for them.(lucky for you, Neo...
