Re: My First Breeding Group (Advice Welcome)
Any advice for feeding? Right now I, feeding three times daily (6:20 AM, 3:00 PM, and 8:00 PM) on a diet of mainly Blackworm Flake with the occasional frozen brine shrimp stuck in there. Is that to often feeding since I'm not trying to breed them yet, shod I cut back to twice daily? Also when I am c...

My First Breeding Group (Advice Welcome)
Just picked up my first breeding group of 5 (2F:3M) Corys (paleatus) and I'm going to start conditioning them for breeding in about a week. I have them in a 15 gallon (24"x12"x12") with a sponge filter for filtration and 1/4-1/3" of pool filter sand for substrate along with a roc...

Virginia Madtom Species
Does anyone know what species of Madtoms (Noturus)are found in northern Virgnia? Most people on here I suspect will know why I'm asking . One species I'm positive on are Margined Madtoms but what others are found in the area?

Re: Gibbiceps Growth
He was in the very front of the tank yesterday facing sideways so I decided to measure him and with a measuring tape he's roughly 5" so longer than I thought he was. Guess he's growing a bit faster anyway.

Re: Gibbiceps Growth
I only keep mine in a 75 gallon as a growout, he'll go in a 240 gallon eventually once he hits around 9-10". The bullhead doesn't really eat his food, I always watch them when I feed and the bullhead hates zucchini. I'll try to soak the pellets tonight.

Gibbiceps Growth
I've had my P. gibbiceps since I purchased him last April at 2". It's now almost 17 months later and he's still only 4" for some reason. I had him in my 30 gallon tall until 3" and then I put him in my 75 back in February but he's only grown about an inch or so since then. I'm not sur...

Re: pH Advice
Ok, thanks guys! I'll just try standard 7.6 water for now and if I can breed them in that then I won't change it. Otherwise I'll mix rainwater.

pH Advice
Setting up my first cory breeding project. It's a 15 gallon (24" x 12" x 12") that will house 5-6 C. paleatus. Problem is I have a high pH of 7.6 out of the tap. While I'm pretty sure they'd still breed in that I'd like it to be at least. 7.4 or lower (preferably 7.0-7.2). What would ...

For the stock I wound up doing 6 Giant Danios, 1 Striped Raph, 1 Gibbiceps, and 1 Yellow Bullhead.

Re: New To Breeding Plecos
Ok so I'll forget the livebearers then. I'll just do a male and two females and keep up on water changes, I'll upgrade if I see any territory issues but I'm using a 20 tall since I got it for free off a friend. Thanks for the help guys! I'd love to breed super red or green dragon but around me there...

Re: New To Breeding Plecos
Thanks! I'll probably do either sand or gravel as substrate then. I think I'm going to do 1 make and either 2 or 3 females and possibly try to breed some type of smaller livebearer at the top level of the tank as well.

New To Breeding Plecos
The only fish I've bred before are Cutteri Cichlids which I didn't even attempt to breed. Setting up a 20 gallon tall (24"L X 12"W X 16"H) and am really wanting to breed plecos in it. I'm not in this for money by any means but it'd be nice to breed some type that I can sell for a few ...

Re: Ameiurus nebulosus
Lovely. Thanks for sharing. Mine are very unfussy. Once well settled and a bit bigger, 5"+, I don't think they have ever refused anything offered to them and their great many tank mates. Very enthusiastic feeders, like yours :) Interesting to learn they may go after plant matter. Didn't know y...

Re: WORRIED! Platydorus Armatulus and aquarium salt???
Params are fine for raphs, they're very adaptable in my experience. However I'm not sure how they are in salt long term, I used salt baths to treat my raph for parasites and he healed up nicely but that was just 15 minutes a day for 3 days.

Re: Advice About My New Cat
Ok thanks! Hopefully the raphael and pleco will grow with the bullhead. I'm trying to get my raph to grow faster but I have an extremely odd one: he ONLY eats shrimp pellets or algae wafers. Can't get him to touch frozen or live!

Advice About My New Cat
I've always wanted a bullhead of any species, it's pretty much been my dream fish since day one. Well I was failing the other day, caught a small one, and had my minnow bucket it with me so you can kind if piece together what happened :). So now I've got a 4" Yellow Bullhead in quarantine in a ...

The gibbiceps pleco is just something I'm growling out until it hits about 10" then it'll go into a 180.

Stocking a 75 gallon cat tank
I'll make this short to not bore people with background. I'm freeing up space in my 75 long (48" x 18" x 20") and want to make it a mainly catfish tank. The base stock will be 6 giant danios, 1 striped raphael catfish, and a gibbiceps pleco I'm growing out since they're already in the...

It would be acrylic. I could upgrade fish at a later point but it'd be about 10 years before I can hope to get bigger than a 180

Well I take that back. Let's say at least 12 or 13 inches but it has to have an attitude.Viktor Jarikov wrote:Temporary or for life? I don't think, in general, 16" fish in an ~23"-wide tank would arouse many opinions that you are needing here.

Re: Brown bullhead tankmates
Well what I ended up doing was a breeding pair of cutteri cichlids, 6 giant danios, my striped raph, and my L165. Although I'm currently rethinking my tank since I'm not happy with how it looks and maybe getting rid of the cutteris to replace with a different cichlid or two and maybe a Black Lancer....

Catfish for a 180
I've been brainstorming ideas for my future 180 gallon (72" x 24" x 24") lately and figured this would be the best place to ask about this option. I'm already growing out a sailfin pleco pleco in my 75 so it would have to be part of the stock. In addition to the pleco I'd be looking f...

Would it be possible to divide the tank in half and do cories on one side with plecos on the other? Or would the other fishes fry swim through and get eaten?

I do have a feeling though that I'm going to go with cats since it's about time for me to get a job and ...
