Re: Sold as "Clown Plec", ID'd as Panaqolus changae - now what?
He (I assume?) is much closer to the changae than the L448 in breadth of body and shape, but he lost any suggestion of striping in the body very quickly as he matured. It doesn't even come through as night-time/stress colouration.

Sold as "Clown Plec", ID'd as Panaqolus changae - now what?
When I bought this fella, it was labelled as a Clown plec, but tentatively ID's as Panaqolus changae . Its pattern has developed over the five years I've had it, and now I don't think it looks like either. It's about 3" long, very prickly all over, and the vermiculation seems to increase as it ages ...

I have no idea if this last photo helps in any way, but I managed to get one from underneath, too.

the pattern would indeed match well with the species description of H. castroi.
However, the snout should be more acute in that species.
Cheers,

Which Whiptail Is This?
I've been given a Whiptail as a present by a well-meaning family member, but it's not what he thought he'd bought. Can anyone ID definitively, please?

Spawning Regularity of Corydoras sterbai
I have a pair of sterbai, who have spawned every few weeks in my plec/community tank since I got them nearly two years ago. I'm in the process of setting up another tank for them, but they've ramped up how often they spawn. Before, it was every three to six weeks. They spawned three times in the ...

It's the same (two) fish. The original photos were of the larger one only. I assume that they coloured down from the stress of being moved.

Just got some hopefully more useful photos, and they give a bit better view of the vermiculation on the head, and the colour in the fins.

You have a very handsome Featherfin. I have never seen a hybrid with the specific fin patterns/markings or those lovely long trendils on their dorsal fin.
Thank you, jodilynn. :)

Is this a hybrid?
I have a Synodontis hybrid that I bought as a baby thinking he was a schoutedini. His pattern changed completely; he's obviously crossed with a eupterus, and seems to now be adult sized at approx 7". He has the most incredible streamers on his dorsal and caudal fins. You don't seem to have a similar ...

It's only bringing them into contention with the fishermen, though, which is never a good thing.

They're in a community tank which gets frozen bloodworm and gamma shrimp once or twice a week, for the Syno, Banjo and Clown loaches in there. They also get courgette and algae wafers, plus the tank is full of wood, but they share with a Panaquolus Changae and a Panaque Nigrolineatus.

Re: Whale shark snared by Chinese fishermen
I've seen videos of them doing it, so it's not impossible. However, I've developed a healthy scepticism when it comes to Chinese or Japanese fishermen says they caught something by accident. I'll try to find the footage I've seen, though.
