Re: Auchenipterichthys coracoideus (zamora woodcat) spawned

Auchenipterichthys coracoideus spawned again. It's been a long time since I've had any of these. I don't think these are viable, but it's nice to discover the parents are resuming spawning. Hopefully more eggs follow these.

Re: Amblydoras nauticus spawned

UPDATE on Amblydoras nauticus young: One video, all three age cohorts. FWIW, there are a lot more babies hiding in the leaf litter in that 5 gallon tank than are seen in the video. You may recall that I removed the now-2-month-old fish a while back to get video. At the time I counted 17 fry after se...

Re: Error message when moving/renaming a species

Thanks for this input. So that all the old links in the forum don't become bad, it seems to me that adding it in two ways is appropriate: Visible as Rio Atabapo Loricaria in the common names. Hidden as Loricaria sp`Rio_Atabapo` in the list of synonyms. By doing it this way, all the old CLOG tags ([ ...

Re: Error message when moving/renaming a species

Follow up question. What is the PCF procedure for the old name (sp`Rio Atabapo`)? Do we preserve that by adding it as a common name? or something else (dump it all together? Doesn't seem wise).

Thanks,
Eric

Error message when moving/renaming a species

Hi Jools, Today I was going to fix an error in the CLOGs, wherein Loricaria sp`Rio Atabapo` would get renamed to conform with its recently described new name, Loricaria nimairaco ; as background, when the new species name was released, I didn't realize it was sp. Rio Atabapo, so I created a new CLOG...

Re: Hypancistrus L236 spawn

That's really cool. Congratulations! I've read that the beautiful color patterns don't fix well genetically, but it's nice to see your baby with such a strikingly nice pattern. As far as raising hatchlings, it's not too difficult but disasters do still occur. I'd leave them in their hatching contain...

Re: Pleco suggestion for a small tank

Thanks bekateen, I assume these are smaller bristlenose species? My LFS recommended only a Britlenose or Clown and from ym research on how large they typically get I would agree those are my best bets here. I also read about the rubbernose as not getting too large, and love the idea they eat black ...

Re: Pleco suggestion for a small tank

I agree with Darrel. The tank size is really small for most plecos. I mean, you could consider Otocinclus , but in my experience a 10 gallon tank is already remarkably vulnerable to water chemistry swings and pollutants, so a 9 gallon tank would be more delicate. Also, I'm not sure if otos would go ...

Re: Zebra otocinclus spawning behavior

This is really cool. I hope they do well in the new tank. I'm always stressed about moving fry from one place to another if I haven't done it before. Then when it works, I'm shocked.

Cheers, Eric

Re: Amblydoras nauticus spawned

On Sept 21, I moved the "17" babies (I recounted and found it was 19!) to a separate tank and I moved the new hatchlings to the 5 gallon rearing tank. I'd already started losing babies even after 3 days in the breeder ring, but I think I have a good number of survivors still. I can't state...
