Re: Asian catfish that can breed in home aquaria?
Hello Quandary, Welcome to Planetcatfish! To follow on medaka's recommendations, look at the list of most-bred species reports, here: https://www.planetcatfish.com/common/my_all_fbws_species.php?mode=blog. (Keep in mind that some of the frequently-bred species (like Hypancistrus zebra and Peckoltia ...

Yes. All true.Viktor Jarikov wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 3:01 am Right, I understood. What I am saying it'd no different if he caught the cat on rod and line, or by cast netting, etc. It's a slip and fall injury, not a noodling injury.

Re: Catfish noodling scores another victim
Thank you Eric! Not so much a noodling victim but slip and fall. Could happen to anyone regardless of the way a catfish is procured. To me rings of the proverbial running with scissors. Don't run with catfish ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, haha... You're welcome Viktor. To clarify, the kid h...

Re: What is the basis for Trachelyopterus albicrux in the Rio Nanay?
Not sure, give a day or two to check? I’m guessing you didn’t find any. :-) Jools No I hadn't. This goes back to 1998 the fish picture below were reportedly from Rio Nanay. It could well be a mistake. The fishes in that picture are a carbon copy of the one's from @TedsFishRoom. I would think it is ...

Re: Cf. Cirrhosis ?
Hi MissNoodle, Their appearance is consistent with common BNs ( Ancistrus cf_cirrhosus ), but there are similar brown bristlenoses too. If your fish are captive bred, they are most likely common BNs. If they are wild caught, it's a bit of a crap shoot in my opinion, unless you have some collecting l...

Don't be jealous. Do it yourself. It's easier than it looks (at least to do it in baby steps like I do). Ask me how later, when I'm back in the states.

Re: Whiptail ID
Hi, to me it looks rather like a hybrid (likely with R. lanceolata , possibly also other species), this species is quite commonly crossed with the red whiptails as the females of R. lanceolata lay significantly more eggs, juveniles are very often nevertheless quite red but darken with age. Hi Karst...

Re: Fishes near Iquitos
Can I get a confirm on ID for this hypoptopomatine? I believe they are Hypoptopoma cf_guianense. We caught a lot of these along the Nanay. The color on the caudal peduncle and two tail lobes seem helpful. There's a very rudimentary adipose fin.
Thanks, Eric

Re: Corydoras reticulatus ?
Not sure. Sometimes the finnage, if slightly torn or edge is frayed, can be ambiguous. The body girth says male, but the fins aren't clearly pointed as they are in the other two fish.

Mouth is wrong for Dasyloricaria. I think it's a Loricaria, maybe Loricaria simillima or similar.

Middle fish may be a thin female. Otherwise, you have 3 male in think.

Re: Fishes near Iquitos
I'm leaving Iquitos and ARCOF soon. I may get one or two more chances to fish the Itaya and Nanay, but this year, in spite of all the new things we found, there are several we didn't find this year, which were around last year: Almost no Ancistrus sp. green spot. No Tatia gyrina No Panaqolus changae...

I would say ambiacus, based on how the black from the dorsal extends onto the body.

Re: Fishes near Iquitos
...in addition to P. lyra , another species, P. ananas is also found in the same area. Yes, I saw that on SpeciesLink.net. My largest fish appears to have only one row of lateral spines, and its coracoids flare outward, so that's why I suspect P. lyra. The little specimens, I'm hoping, are the same...
