Re: Tips for new pleco breeding project thanks.

Yes, any Peckoltia would be good. Or if you want to "level jump" in your 300L, try any Leporacanthicus.

Re: Fishes near Iquitos

August came late, but Christmas came early... Finally, after three months, most of the species I collected or bought in Iquitos in August landed in California. Of course, wild caught fish are prone to mortality, so I'm told that the local students and managers at ARCOF worked to replace some of the ...

Re: Male or female?

I'm ambivalent about the vent because I've never been good with sexing plecos using that feature. But the body shape and pectoral spines (https://www.planetcatfish.com/common/im ... ge_id=9100) suggest to me that this is a female. I may be wrong.

Re: Treating Planaria infestation in L number Catfish Tanks

I think you could use that, or any maybe any normal "dewormer" medicine that's safe for fish. Worth a try anyway.

Alternatively, planaria really thrive in overfed tanks. Maybe reduce feedings for a few weeks? IDK if it would do any good, but it shouldn't hurt the fish.

Good luck,
Eric

Re: Bristlenose Pleco belly up but still alive

It could also be something like kidney failure if the water quality was very bad for a long time. In that case there is really nothing to do about it. I rarely see floating catfish get better.

You could try epsom salts, but I doubt it will help.

Good luck,
Eric

Re: What is this guy?

I agree the photo is not very helpful. It does resemble L066 , but I suspect this is one of the Aphanotorulus species, although I'm not sure if I'm right, and if so, I'm not sure which species. The clues are the large eyes positioned on the top of the head and elongate, relatively shallow body. That...

Re: Imported as Ancistrus bodenhameri from Petra Aqua. Now spawned!

Looking ahead with anticipation: The first spawn was Sept 22, a Thursday. The second spawn was Oct 20, another Thursday exactly 4 weeks after the first time. For the last 2-3 days, a male has been in the spawning cave alone, but he has his tail dangling out of the cave like he's trying to lure the ...

@sturisoma, think nothing of it. :-) By the way, your photos show both males and females (your initial photo is of a female; the three photos showing the most obvious fish in the leaves is of a male). Do you have any sexy time going on among them? Never mind. I see your breeding report. The answer i...

Re: Help ID cat and pleco

Look at Trachelyopterus fisheri for the woodcat. It does not have the more vertical, extended dorsal fin that the fisheri appears to have, respectfully. I agree it's Trachelyopterus, and it could be a female Trachelyopterus fisheri . But I'd also consider Trachelyopterus galeatus . The pleco in not...

@sturisoma, based on the color pattern of the dorsal fin and head, this is not Rineloricaria lanceolata. I think it's Rineloricaria eigenmanni.
