Why is Tatia creutzbergi synonymized with T. gyrinus?

Hi All,

Should Tatia creutzbergi be synonymized with T. gyrinus? Seems like maybe they should be separate given that COF has them that way. Check out the info in this post: https://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/vie ... 36#p344236

Re: Fishes near Iquitos

As I mentioned, these Tatia were labeled Tatia gyrinus , but weirdly the source had a second tank full of fish that looked like typical (as I know them) T. gyrina (see photo below).

On the advice of @The.Dark.One, I went back to the original descriptions of Tatia gyrinus (from Río Itaya, Iquitos ...

Re: Fishes near Iquitos

Another Tatia I saw at a holding facility is this. It's listed as gyrina and smaller specimens of this were mixed with real Tatia gyrina , but the big fish here are close to 8-9cm SL. Deffo not gyrina. I wonder if these are the same as the fish in the paper above ( HERE ) ID'd as Tatia dunni ? Maybe.

Re: Fishes near Iquitos

I'm back in Iquitos this summer for a short trip. Not a lot of fishing, but we didn't catch more of these fish: Cetopsorhamdia sp`Peru_2` . Again we caught both color forms in the same net. The third photo shows some of the variation in the silver/ white markings along the opercular margin of three ...

Hi Heck,

I'm not familiar with the Mystus, but from what I've seen in other people's tanks, the Horobagrus are active day and night. I've kept both of the Synodontis species you listed as well as the pictus cats. In general, I'd describe the pictus as day-active, and the nigriventris as more night ...

Re: Erethistes horai? No, E. minusculus - SPAWNED!

I just got back after being away for 3 days for the July 4th Independence Day weekend. A late night inspection tonight revealed fresh eggs (very yellow too!) under the false floor plus eggs with embryos about to hatch in the spawning mop plus several fry of obviously different sizes and ages ...

Re: Erethistes horai? No, E. minusculus - SPAWNED!

The fish continue to spawn with more eggs laid today. With this knowledge, it seems more appropriate to call this a single spawning over multiple days, rather than thinking of each day being a unique spawn.

Unfortunately, with six fish in the tank and an unknown male:female ratio, IDK if all the ...

Follow up information: It's now 5:40 pm here. The Erethistes minusculus have continued to lay more eggs in the spawning mop and among the Java moss throughout the daylight hours.

I've witnessed a pair of fish swimming back and forth through and around the spawning mop, but I haven't actually ...

Re: Help with ID of new catfish

I'd agree with the C. simulatus ID. For the other fish, it appears to have a straight snout, which would imply a Brochis(sc3) species; for that, I think there are a few prospects, all similar:
Brochis(sc3) ambiacus
Brochis(sc3) delphax
Brochis(sc3) sp(cw057)
Brochis(sc3) sp(cw082)
Brochis ...

Re: Erethistes horai? No, E. minusculus - SPAWNED!

New spawns continue! There are fresh eggs in the mop this morning!

Spawn #1: 19 June (discovered at 5mm SL - my guess is these are already about 1 week old)
Spawn #2: 01 July (discovered at 13mm SL - these are probably at least 1-2 weeks older than the fry found on 19 June)
Spawn #3: 01 July ...

Hi Bebefinn. Welcome to PlanetCatfish!

I believe that fish gets sold as Tatia aulopygia , although the ID is questionable. It's sometimes listed as T. cf. aulopygia (as you see in the book) to reflect the uncertainty. Local retailers, if I recall, sell it at Tatia dunni , but again the ID is ...

Definitely see new hatchlings today. First, I witnessed one egg hatch under the false floor and saw another unhatched egg, then I picked up the mop and shook it out to discover fry of three sizes. Now I'm convinced the largest fry are not simply better fed than smaller siblings. This is definitely ...

Today, after looking again at how much bigger the fry are loose in the tank, I gambled and released the fry from the fry box back into the parents' tank. Fingers cruised they don't get eaten.
