Re: L144 CotM article/species page

Hi Eric, In my opinion and as far as I am aware of the back story what is sold as L144 is indeed a mutation of the common bristlenose. The fact that it shows no spots should be a side effect of the specific mutation, depending on which pigment cannot be produced. I would expect albinism and xanthism...

Re: Sexing Clown Panaque?

Hi, Your "female" is not a Panaqolus! Looks more like some kind of Chaetostoma.. So, even if it is a female, they won't breed because they're not even of the same genus.. Cheers, Sandor P.S.: the male indeed looks like a male. Can't make out the species, but it indeed looks like some kind ...

Re: L205 or P. brevis?

Hi,

I believe Daniel is referring to the fact that while being a distinct local variety that should not be mixed with P. brevis, L205 is at least scientifically not a distinct species.

..and the best way for you to "help" is to not bother them (yes, I know that's extremely hard!).
If you can, ignore the tank for two, better three days..

Re: L114 vs L600 vs P. Leopardus

Hi Jacqueline, Short answer: there is none. L600 isn't a "valid" L-Number, but was invented by some seller to make the real P. leopardus appear more interesting (still today, a fish sells better if it has an L-Number, almost regardless of what it looks like).. So what you find advertised a...

Hi,

That's the bred black variety of Corydoras schultzei (if I'm not mistaken still technically a synonym of Corydoras aeneus).

Hoops,

There are a few pictures of young fish taken by Karsten S.
He is probably willing to also provide them for PCF..

Re: Spawning of LDA-81

Jools, Unfortunately the L-Welse.com server is down right now and my literature is still in storage in Germany, so I have to work from memory. But I *think* there are some rather good pictures of LDA-81 under the trade name Peckoltia sp. "Manaus" available (and as soon as L-Welse.com works...

Re: Spawning of LDA-81

Hi,

Sorry to disappoint you, but LDA81 has been spawned for years in Germany (over several generations).
Still, no small achievement, so congrats!

Re: Sorta Mottled, sorta striped Plecos

Hi,

Just for the sake of completeness: number one could also be L52.
Pretty difficult to tell apart on pictures.
Good thing for you is that there's practically now difference in keeping L52 and L168.

Re: A. Rio Ucayali, A. hoplogenys or something else

Hi,

that likely is Ancistrus sp. "Rio Ucayali", definitely no A. hoplogenys (markings in the fins are wrong, base color is off, "net" markings on the head are not present in A. hoplogenys).

Re: New Pseudancistrus from the Xingu and Tapajós

Hi,

looks like the fish formerly known as Pseudancistrus sp. "L 67" is now known as Pseudancistrus asurini.
Pseudancistrus kayabi on the other hand reminds me a lot of L321 (that one I´m less sure about, though)..

Re: history/origins of the super red bristlenose?

Hi, the Super-Red bristlenose was first line-bred from the calico form of the common bristlenose by a German hobbyist. As is the way with the common bristlenose, they are pretty fertile and as soon as the pure strain got introduced into the market, it spred pretty quickly. A long-finned variety got ...

Re: Not Corydoras agassizii? Is it C. schwartzi?

Hi, AFAIK, the origin of C141 is unknown. I just had a quick look at the original introduction of C141, and no location is provided in it. It is presented as an occasional by-catch which is frequently erroneously ID'ed as C. ornatus. C141 is supposed to have the markings of C. ornatus, but with a wh...

Re: Need Allot of Help, I'm grey with a stripey pattern

Hi,

I would add Peckoltia caenosa to the list of potential candidates..
But to get a better ID, you´ll have to provide better pictures!
