Re: Sick Rafael

he is listless, sometimes lying upside down or on his side. I can nudge him and he doesn't swim away, which is so unusual. He is not hiding during the day like he usually did. He almost looks dead, but sometimes he thrashes around like he itches. He doesn't swim much either.

Sick Rafael

My Rafael seems to be sick. His coloring seems blotchy. He is listless, sometimes upside down. sometimes acts like he is itchy. I had a PH problem (low) but it is OK now. He is about 6 years old. It doesn't look like Ich and is not affecting any of the other fish (pleco, spotted catfish, Silver ...

Re: withering barbels on pictus

nothing has changed in the tank and it has great aeration kit is not old so I have no reason to doubt the results I have never noticed any of the other fish paying him any attention. He usually just lurks at the bottom and has occassionally eaten a smaller fish. So, we don't put small fish in there ...

withering barbels on pictus

We have a pictus about 3" long. We've had him 6-8 months. Today I noticed that he is swimming more toward the top and his barbels look damaged - not stiff anymore. They look soft beginning about halfway up. I immediately tested water but everything, ph, nitrites, ammonia tested perfect. I don't ...

found - Thank you for your help

If I told you the whole story, it would make your day. But I really just want to thank you all for your helpful replies.
We had given up and we had spent hours trying everything you suggested. The water temp had dropped to between 58 & 60 degrees. Last Friday, my daughter called me to say she found ...

Find Raphael (cont.)

Thank you to all for your helpful hints. We finally spied him last night, but each of us with a flashlight and a net meant not enough hands to get him. I hope we haven't totally spooked him. We did learn just how easily he hides and in the smallest spaces!! Made the coke bottle trap and will use it ...

Help Find Raphael

We have a Raphael catfish in our outdoor pond, which is about 6'x 9' x 3' deep. We only see him about once a week near dusk. Now it is getting cooler and he needs to be brought inside only we can't find him to catch him. We have removed plants (temporarily) and rocks and looked in the folds of the ...
