First of all, let me state that there are hardly any better dither fish than Devarios and Danios. It is remarkable that they are able - due to their constant swimming and "playing around" - to get even the most shy catfish out of its hiding place. In my long experience I've tried plenty of Characin species for the same purpose, but almost all started behaving like the catfishes, some even to such an extent that the cats became dithers for the Characins .
Anyway, I came across Devario pathirana yesterday and couldn't resist.... They are in the tank that already has a shoal of Devario shanensis. The question is whether these are likely to cross breed or not. The Devario-site doesn't have an appropriate answer; perhaps someone overhere has?

Well. they were sold as such. However, I don't think they are D. pathirana. Although small, mine already show colour on their tails and anal fins and look very slender. I hope it is D. kyathit, but at the moment I don't have a clue. Checked all species on the Devario and Danio site, but they show mostly adult species. Just have to wait I guess.
The question above still stands, however.

even if they spawn together it won't be an issue....you got a tank full of very hungry Auchenipterid egg-eaters!
I'd say; the cats will really appreciate any spawning attempts by the Danio/Devario's.

This is not the best picture(.....), but it might give an indication:
They are the fish with the coloured < in the tail. They indeed have a pattern, but that is only to be seen on the original (large) picture. At the moment they are about 2 cms and very unwilling to pose.
BTW: you'd be surprised how many Devario shanensis fry survive, despite the Auchenipterids. But that may also be because most of them end up in the filter tank, where they grow pretty quickly.

ah, those. I've seen them before with an unknown name attached (can't remember what it was).
personally; haven't got a clue wich species it is, but it's not a pathirana. pathi's have a reddish brown/orange tail with no markings at all on it, and a deep body; next to Devario devario perhaps the deepest body. the other species are much more stretched, even D malabaricus.

If he's interested in nicely sized D. dangila or the above species: they come from Waterman, Deurne.
Or perhaps you can try your luck at the Daphnia Annual Fair in Boxtel next Sunday.
