"White-tailed catfish"

Post by Dinyar »

I see the following item on an import list:
CATFISH WHITE TAILED 7"-8", Bagrichthys hypselopterus
Could this really be Bagrichthys hypselopterus, or a Hemibagrus sp. masquerading as Bagrichthys? And if the former, does anyone have experiencce with long-term care of this fish?

Or they could well be B. macracanthus (or any other congener except B. hypselopterus. There is no evidence that B. hypselopterus have white tails, though.

Why, does B macracanthus have a white tail? I thought it was kinda transparent?

Under certain lighting conditions, the caudal fin will appear very contrasting (i.e. white) against the body.

Thanks HH for your input on this and the "Hara golokensis" ID. Too busy for now to buy new fish, but maybe in the next few months...
