Search bugs in Safari

The results page in a forum search automatically refreshes to the forum search page after 2 seconds.

Can you confirm that it happens with any search criteria or options (just try a few) and that it doesn't do this with another browser on the same machine.

I confirm that it happens regardless of search term used and that the problem does not occur when using Firefox.

Right, well that narrows it down then, finally, can you confirm what version specifically of Safari you're using?

I will ask Rusty if he can help, if not I'll need to find an internet cafe with Macs...

I'm using the same build of Safari as Silurus but cannot replicate this problem. For me, Safari behaves as it should.

I'm going to struggle to find the cuase of this... Silurus, perhaps it's some plug-in, ad blocker or the like? Can you turn that kind of thing off and see where it gets us?

I'm not using any additional plug-ins or ad blockers, and I get the problem both on my desktop (PowerMac G4) and laptop (PowerBook G4).
This strangely happens only with a keyword search. An unread posts search is OK.

On a related note, I just noted that the search results page is refreshing at a very high rate, so much so that the flood control is kicking in (did you ever solve the flood control issue, Jools?). Could this be the source of the problem?

I am almost certain that the hight refresh rate is responsible for this bug (and the other composing bug) as well.

To be honest, I'm a but puzzled about the refresh you talk about on the search results. There shouldn't be any at all.

So, you search for something and then a results list is displayed, are you saying that then refreshes if you leave the page alone? What does it refresh too?

Is this still an issue? Can we arrange some online chat time to look into it? I'm just wondering if I'm missing something.

Another avenue would be to allow me to remotely control your mac, but I appreciate that you might not be up for that. No problems if not.

Well, I've not changed ANYTHING except the my cats stuff and that should not affect it but I will double check...

Can you give me a click by click account of what you are doing and I will try it out on http://www.browsrcamp.com/

i.e.

Open browser from scratch
Type http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum in address bar
click on forum link
Type "coffee and tea" into search text box
etc...

Hang on? I think it might be becuase the forum isn't sure if you've logged out or not (you must be logged in to use this search as only then does the forum know who you are and thus when you last visited).

It might be that although your cache shows a page where you are logged in, the cookie or session thinks you are not logged in and the continual refresh is an attempt to bring up the log in page.

You could try making http://www.planetcatfish.com/core or even http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/sear ... d=newposts your home page?

I have been using the forum from its inception without this problem until recently. Did the time limit for the cookie change recently?

Yes, it did, I changed it to 7000 (when I was in SA) to see if that helped the invalid sessions problem. I changed it back earlier today to 3600 (1 hour).

Also, what does checking the "log me in automatically with each visit box" do? Shouldn't that keep me logged in?

Yes, it should keep you logged in as it stores your username in a cookie and so reloads your session assuming you log in from the same place at a later point in time (and you have cookies switched on) etc.
