You made me curious by that remark, Mike, so I checked.Mike_Noren wrote:Catalog of Fishes lists both names as valid
CoF lists Tatia perugiae as valid and Centromochlus perugiae as a synonym.
You may have looked at the first column and indeed it says Centromochlus perugiae under scientific name; however the third column shows the valid name.
Anyway, I still don't understand why they keep shoving this species around. For me it's a genuine Tatia.

Scotland to invade England
For some time I've been thinking about and talking to various folks about an organised visit to Pier Aquatics in Wigan. There's maybe enough folks in Scotland and indeed in the central belt specifically, that might make this a fun thing to do.
Maybe sometime after Easter?
So, if this a good idea, are you interested in going?
Would we meet and take a convoy of cars down?
Should I hire a bus?
Should we overnight?
This is just an initial toe in the water, let me know if anyone is interested. Of course, it'd be great if other Planet catfish members from England also chose this day (whenever it is) to also descend on Wigan en masse. It'd be good to meet more forum regulars.

Nope, I am going mad!
What I was going to say was that the name is so "unstable" at the moment, that I am inclined to leave it in for a couple of years and then look at it again.

Hm... Perhaps I'm not reading it right, but it has the "?Valid as" flag set on both names as far as I can tell.Marc van Arc wrote:You made me curious by that remark, Mike, so I checked.
CoF lists Tatia perugiae as valid and Centromochlus perugiae as a synonym.
ITIS and fishbase both unambiguously list it as Tatia.

Hi Mike,
What I did was type Centromochlus in Eschmeyer Genera. Then you get a list of 19 species, of which the first column holds the scientific name. The third column of that page however holds the valid name.
I assume you used Eschmeyer Species, in which indeed both species are listed as valid. I've learnt that the last named species is valid, and every name above that is to be considered as a synonym.
Yet the whole genus is a bit messy, for I would also consider for instance C. reticulatus as a genuine Tatia. But hey, I'm just an amateur
Thanks for your input.
