Corydoras Book

Post by Amber969 »

Hello

I am very interested in purchasing the abovementioned; and would like to know is there a basic 101 to Corydoras that each and every Cory owner should have.

Cheers

Check out Werner Seuss

he's the man when it comes to Corydoras IMO.

I hope this does not come over as an ego trip or anything of that kind, but the latest publication on the identification of Corys was published in June 2005 by myself and was co-authored by Hans-Georg Evers, I am not going to say anything about the book myself but let you read the review by Jools so that you can make your own decision Identifying Corydoradinae Catfishes

To my mind, there's a lot more information in Fuller & Evers than in Seuss and the former is more up-to-date.

However, a lot depends on if you want to major on ID information, keeping information or breeding information and so on. And how much you want to pay.

I have nothing against Ian's self-promotion, he does a lot of good on this site, and making a couple of pennies by promoting his product isn't a bad thing.

Ian's Identifying Corydoradinae Catfish is a good book for the subject that the title describes - identification. But I'd hardly say that it's a good "overall" book. On the other hand, it's a "necessity" for anyone collecting Corydoras species, or into the less common varieties just to bring to the shop to make sure the "supposedly unusual species in the shop really is unusual".

I beleive Ian also has published a book on breeding/spawning Corydoras (and possibly other related species), which I think is another useful read.

But both books are not "the only book you'll ever need for Corydoras" - a generic book on Corydoras is probably also needed (of which there are many to choose from, and all have some good and some bad sides to them).

Hi all

I have started on the book reviews and ~phew~ I had no idea that there were so many books to begin with.

I am just wanting to make sure that I have correct name for the corys that I have and yes, I am interested in breeding them; of course, that is entirely up to them.

I would also like to acquire some more unique ones but not right now, I just want to make sure that I can provide the needs of the corys before I go on to the next step.

Thank you so much for the selection that have been mentioned, will definitely get 1 or 2 to start off with and work my way up from there.

Again, many thanks for the help and much appreciated.

Cheers
