Common Otocinclus ID Please?

Post by Darter02 »

I know this isn?t a very exotic, especially after doing a search of this part of the forum and seeing some of the really interesting species, but I like to know the specifics of what I keep.

Can anyone please tell me exactly which species of Otocinclus this is?

I took this after getting them. They've lost this harsh, irritated pink color to their gills thankfully.

I picked up 12 a while back for my 75g planted Discus tank. I still have 10! One died right off the bat; the second death was a bad case of dropsy. The rest seem to be enjoying themselves and some of our favorite fish.

I would say that your fish are Otocinclus vittatus, but that's far from a positive ID. vestitus is virtually identical to vittatus in pictures like these, so there I'm simply playing the odds, and several other species are similar enough that they're almost as good matches. I would say I am 40% sure that's a vittatus.
