Hi guys, I need some help id'ing my new arrival.

The guy in the shop couldn't decide what it was so we agreed what I thought was a very nice price. This fish has a nice attitude unlike my other cats who hide away until dark.

To be honest, I'd take him back to the shop while he's still small, it'll outgrown that tank in under two years (probably less as I'm guessing at the size) if properly kept.

I've not kept these fish myself, in talking with other specialists, you're going to have a foot long fish in under two years. Ask forum user dorad for a second opinion. As it approaches that size, it's time to move it to a bigger tank (as opposed to time to take it back to the shop becuase you may have trouble in doing that).

In 2 years I will definitely have upgraded to a much bigger tank.

Perhaps you could move this thread to the more relevant section please mate.

A foot long cat I could cope with, as long as he/she doesn't eat the other residents. My spotted doradid & cute little clown plec have been happy residents for many years.

I will try and get pics of these two just in case they are not what I thought.

at 1 foot this fish isn't even half grown

but it won;t eat other fish as it is a docile peaceful snail-eater.

you might want to get friendly with people who suffer from MTS trouble (snail-infested tanks).

there must be millions of fish-keepers out there driven to desperation by the ever occurring trumpet/Malaysian Burrowing snail plague

you just got yourself "the final solution" to that problem! this is one bad catfish for snails......if there is something as a "snail hell", this one's the very devil
