pH for Aspidoras
I bought six of these last week; don't know the exact species. I seem to remember reading that they like a slightly acid pH--is this so? I am keeping them at pH 6.5 and everything seems fine. They started feeding right away.

pH for aspidoras
I've read that the pH spand for Aspidoras pauciradiatus is 6,0 - 7,2.
I keep mine (a school of 31 fish) in af fast current 54 L tank with a turnover rate on 20 times hour and a 8 kg piece of root.
I meassured my pH yesterday to 5,65. Is this to low? And is it dangerous?
The fish seem to thrive, eating well and females putting on good weight.
Also, my dH is 0. I change 30% of the water weekly with ultra pure water. Can the dH (water hardness) be to low for this species?
Of course, my aim is to breed these fish.
Thanks

The problem with very soft water is that it has little buffering capacity, so you risk a pH crash. If you are using RO water I would mix in some dechlorinated tap water. If it's your tap water that's extremely soft, add a sprinkling of coral gravel to increase the carbonate hardness.
