Is my tank big enough

Post by sambangert »

I think i've posted this in the right place:

I've got these 2 sino's, there roughly 6-7 inches. They are living in a 120l x 70.5h x 40.5w tank. Can they live together, or is my tank big enough for just one of them. Is my tank big enough for the both of them as i sometimes see them going nose to nose and chasing each other about the tank. This also seems to agitate the other tank mates.

This is a picture of one of them:

I really like them but if one needs rehoming (or both) i'll do it as i want the best welfare for my fish.

Thanks

in a 4 feet tank (120cm) there's room for a few Syno's this size. Synodontis eupterus can be slightly territorial, but size for size this is definitely one of the more mellow cats.

if the "rough" guide to keep catfishes is a tanksize about 5-6x the adult length of the fish, you're still safe. they don't grow much longer than 8"/20cm. although fully grown adults can be very bulky.

you'll notice when they come of age the growth in length gets replaced by growth in width and especially height!
adult and old S eupterus are very imposing, with a huge adipose and humped back and enormous dorsal with long filaments. the tailfin gets overly large as well with elongated lobes.

Many thanks. Puts my mind at ease. They do like there food though. When i put bloodworm into the tank they go into a frenzy. Literally go crazy. Real fun to watch.

Other tank mates include a rainbow shark, black ghost knife, 2 rainbow fish 2 rams. 3 Clown loaches. I think the tank is definatley gonna be to small for the clown loaches in time.

Would any of these fish have prolems with the syno's???

Hardly likely. Perhaps they may have a quarrel with the rainbow shark now and again, but afaics don't expect anything serious.
