Is my cory sick and dying?

Post by Terri »

Our pepper colored cory has been listless lying at the bottom of the tank and a lot of times lying on its side. He/she has been doin this for about a week now. We have an albino cory and a beta in the tank too and they seem to be acting normal. The pepper cory and the beta us to chase each other and not the beta will come up to the cory and just fan its fins at him. Every once in a while the beta will kinda poke at the cory but in a very gentle manner. Almost as if the beta is nudging the cory to show some sign of life. The beta is acting very protective of the cory? No I am new to taking care of fish, I had no idea to check water temp, acid levels etc so none of that has been done. We basically bought 3 compatible fish for our kids and we feed them according to the directions of the store we bought them from and have them in a 5 gallon tank.

What do you keep the temperature at? I had a lot of problems with C. paleatus because I kept the temp too high for it. Check the species description in the cat eLog for C. paleatus to make sure that you have the right conditions for it. Also, you should really have more than one - these are schooling fish!
