LDA-31/ Panaqulos albomaculatus
G'day,
I was just wondering if anyone has been successful in breeding these beautiful L-numbers yet? Also how do you sex them? I've searched many places but to no avail, hope someone can help me.
Cheers,
Clint

Hi!
You can check the cat-elog there is several good pictures showing the dimorphism.
Males have longer odontodes on the pectoral fins, interopercular odontodes are just a bit bigger. Males also have plate odontodes on the caudal pedoncul.
Females are more round in the ventral region...
Cheers

I have checked the cat-e-log but still there isn't enough information available out there. I'll go with what you've said and see if i can sex mine.

I keep two males and a female for some years now and always find them sitting in their caves (except by night) - the female outside under its woodpiece.
Never heard or read anything about breeding LDA 31.
If you can translate it from german, look at:

G'day Klaus,
I have 3 of these beautiful loricarid's too; 1M/2F i think. Mine are just as shy as yours even at night. They hardly come out and are always hiding in the logs or caves that i have designed for them. I was wondering what you feed yours? I feed mine frozen brine shrimp and bloodworms, hikari algae tablets and colorbits as well. Mine are quite shy even during feeding time!!
By the way, how big are yours catties now? Thanks for the website but unfortunately i can read German!!! I'll see if i have any friends who can translate it for me.
Thanks for replying too.
Cheers,
Clint

Re: LDA-31/ Panaqulos albomaculatus
Well, I've tried lots of different food - even potatoes, because they are Panaque-relatives, but they ignore it. Nowadays they get Hikari Algae-Wafers, bloodworms and mysis. Wood is very important - you can see it in the mornings after they had had a whole night, carving wood.clint8 wrote:G'day Klaus,

They are the second shiest catfish I have - second to the L 114.
They are about 14 cm long (I don't know, what that is in inch).
I still hope, to be (one fine day) the first one to breed them.

See you an let's keep contact.

Hi Klaus,
I haven't tried potatoes but have tried tomato's, zuchini, cucumber's, pumpkin but all in vain as they will not take the food. Haven't tried mysis though? Is it a type of shrimp? Do you feed, the frozen form or live form? I have plenty of wood in mine so there's no problems there for them.
What do you keep your catties with...or are they all by themselves? What temperature do you keep them at by the way?
Looks like my catties are about the same size as yours as well!!! I hope you do breed them so you can share your wealth of knowledge with me:)
Do keep in touch mate.
Cheers,
Clint

Nowadays they are for themselves in 30°Celsius. But I kept them together with Ancistrus ranunculus and Hypancistrus zebra, which are from the same natural habit - they even meet each other in nature.
Anytime there's something to mention about them, I'll give you a "call".

G'day Walter,
Just wondering with your potatoes, do you actually boil them first? Also with your catties, what temperature do you keep them at? I'm keeping mine at around 27C at the moment, do you think that's ok? I've read some article's that suggest you keep them in the 30C's. I just don't want to cook them!!!
Thanks for responding too.

Re: LDA-31/ Panaqulos albomaculatus
The waters where they come from are up to 35 °C and higher, therefore I think it to be better for these catfish, to be kept in alternating temperatures......(afaik!)clint8 wrote:G'day Walter,

Hm.......I got my informations from Ingo Seidel about Rio Xingu und Rio Tocantins, and I don't know, whether they might live in Peru and elsewhere.Janne wrote:I thought LDA31 was from Peru and was living together with L204, but this is not true or?

PlanetCatfish sais they come from Ecuador: Tributary of the Rio Suno under the Rio Napo.
And there they have 27°-33°C as well.

Also hmm
In "Wels Atlas" by Ingo Seidel and Hans-Georg Evers in chapter "PERU - RÃo Alejandro" P. albomaculatus occuring in this river according to Schaefer & Stewart (1993).
My wholesaler have informed me that he once got a few special fish as a contamination in a shipment of L204 - He says the fish looks like L204 but have spots instead of stripes. I've later seen pictures of these "spotted L204" - they match LDA31
I've also seen fish sold as L204a - spotted L204 in LFS in Denmark and in Germany - they also match LDA31

Let's say LDA 31 lives in South America, okay?

In the northern territories, better north-west?
And there are people, who are concerned, that these cats normally live in 30°C-water, okay?

Okay, okay, I put ashes on my head, I've made a mistake - I've mixed the whereabouts with the home of my Ancistrus ranunculus. Sorry folks.Silurus wrote:According to the NEODAT database, here's where P. albomaculatus has been found:

Hi,
And with these catfishes "L-204 spotted" they got "ordinary L-204" in the same charge.
exact these fishes I own. They have been exportet by "Aquarium Rio Momon", Peru (owner Austrian Martin Mortenthaler) and I´ve bought them in Vienna´s "Aquarium Wien" (Owner Thomas Mortenthaler, Martin´s brother). That´s why I´m so sure about the origin.kgroenhoej wrote:Also a few special fish as a contamination in a shipment of L204 - He says the fish looks like L204 but have spots instead of stripes. Hi LZ,
Nice pick of your cattie. Was just looking at your tank surroundings, and it has no gravel. Is this their permanent tank or just a quarantine tank? Just wondering because i'm resetting their tank and wanted to know whether gravel would be essential or not. What do others think? All i know is that they s**t a lot!!!
Cheers,
Clint
