Found a good article on the unconscionable Belo Monte dam project in the Xingu, and the even bigger and even more destructive hydroelectric project in Madeira, which will extinguish dozens of species, including :

Yikes, as well as the Xingu and Madeira, the Tapajós, Araguaia and Trombetas are all also earmarked for being dammed as well.
