PLease help Jaguar Cat looking like he's going to die

Post by Koltsix »

At night the Jaguar Cat keeps floating at the surface of my tank on his side. There are no signs of body damage or fungal infections. I just checked my water parameters and the ph is still at 6.8-7.0 and my nitrates, nitrites and ammonia levels are 0 ppm. None of the other fish are acting funny. My rtc/tsn cross is very active and his appetite is good and my stingrays also look fine. Image Image Image

He does look a bit thin :(

he also looks in pic 2 to have some reddness around the right pectoral which could be a sign of a bacterial infection - if possible hospitalise him in isolation using existing tank water, treat for bacterial infection (only if there is actual reddness - hard to see in the photo). Don't bother using a light on the tank as natural light will keep stress levels down. Try feeding with 'soft' food like earthworm or prawn to bulk him up.

As I can't upload picture 2 (nor 1 or 3) I can't see if there's some disease. But what I do see is an underfed fish. Even if it's not ill, I would strongly recommend a quarantine tank to give it a chance to recover.
In your current setting it's the weakest fish, even when very healthy. In this state it'll never be able to get to any food, which will worsen its condition and inevitably leads to its death.
You'll have a hard job keeping this one alive anyway. Floating is a very bad sign.
I believe you bought it recently? In that case I would have a word with the LFS. Imo they shouldn't have sold you a fish in this deplorable state. For I don't think they gave it to you, did they?
