Feeding Corys, Need some help!

Post by Matt1010 »

Hey guys,

I recently got 3 Sterbai Cories and 3 Hi Fin cories in my 65 gallon. I've fed them by feeding flakes, which mostly get eaten by the 12 tetras so I put in another pinch after the tetras are full so they land on the bottom, I'm not exactly sure how much I should be giving them but some of the flakes carry a long with the current and dont get to the bottom. So I alternate by feeding wafers twice a day, one are vege wafers and the other ones have higher protein. I also have Shrimp pellets but they dont care for them much.

What would be an ideal diet for my 6 cories?

Also, I never seem to see my upside down catfish eat anything but when I look at him he has a stomach like a golf ball? Is he eating ok?

There will be some food that falls down to the bottom. I feed wafers which are an all purpose fish food. I'll crush some which the top and middle dwellers get and the I'll take a couple of wafer and just cut them in two and let them drop. I supplement with lots of different things. Freeze dried blood worms, freeze dried tubifex (get the air out of the cube by squeezing it in the water first), cyclops, frozen mysis shrimp, wafers for bottom dwellers, dehydrated earthworm - these fish will eat anything that falls to the bottom.

I just got 5 sterbais and I just love them. Talk about personality.

Thanks a lot for the info, so this is what I plan on doing for now. I'll definately look into a more varied diet but flakes and wafers seem ok for now.

So I feed flake in the morning and afternoon, I feed till the tetras are full than I feed a pinch more to get some to the bottom, I also put in a wafer, at night I do the same thing, flakes than a wafer. Is this over feeding? Or ok? Any leftover wafer generally gets cleaned by my two plecos at night, and my apple snail snacks on the wafer as well.

I have 12 peppered cories. I feed them once a day after their tank lights go off. I alternate, some days I give them sinking shrimp pellets, sinking canivore pellets, sinking veggie rounds, sinking hikari wafers. I drop in like 8 total, a little of each.

On the days that I feed them frozen defrosted stuff it's either bloodworms, tubifex, or shrimp. I give them a whole cube and defrost it in a small container with some of their tank water. Then I use a medicine dropper and suck it up and release it at the bottom of their tank.
