Yesterday I had a Ammonia-Nitrite spike in my quarantine tank currently housing 5 Syno Multipunctatus. After a couple of PWC and addition of filter pads and substrate from established tanks, all is under control now.
Yesterday, none of the fish showed any distress except this one Syno. He was hanging around at the surface which prompted my concern. He is like my canary in the mine, LOL. Today even though Ammonia=0, Nitrite=0, Nitrate=10, he is still hanging around at the surface. Again, everyone else seems fine.
I feel terrible! I realize damage caused by ammonia and nitrite is permanent, but I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to heal as much as possible, or at least relieve some of his distress. Melafix?
Or maybe he became convinced he could not breathe except at the surface and will take some time to become confident enough to return to normal behavior?
