Got these given to me and he was told the are petricola. But after research I believe they are multipunctatus. Any ideas?

Yes multipunctatus - definately not petricola or lucipinnis - with the latter 2 species the 1st hard spine of the dorsal & pectorals is white, whereas in multipunctatus it's dark. It might be grandiops though which is extremely similar & can only be distinguished externally by a measure of eye diameter as a percentage of the head size

cool thanks. How common is the grandiops? Or is it like petricola and lucipinnis in the sense that most petricola sold are in fact lucipinnis.

To be honest, i don't know

I am not sure if anyone has done any research on this in terms of hobbyists fishes - based on my 18 fishes - 8 were grandiops( i cut back to 9 overall, 4 grandiops) which as a crude figure suggests about 50% of imported wild specimens are actually grandiops :?: :?: :?:

Thanks again. At least I know they are not petricola. I was comparing them to my petricola babies and they just didnt look right.
