pH 8.0 okay for Cory Sterbai?
pH 8.0 okay for Cory Sterbai?
[Edit] My tap source tests pH 8.0. Is this an acceptable range for Sterbais? On this site, the habitat pH for Sterbai is listed 6.0 - 7.6. When I do get Corys I want to do it right. I don't just want my fish to survive. I want them to thrive and be happy. Is my tap pH too high? What is the easiest, safest, cheapest, most "natural" way to reduce pH? What would be the optimal range just for comfortable living? Neutral 7.0?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: What can I do to reduce pH for Cory's?
I am not up on cory's that well...but you could also rephrase your question to what cory species (if any) could handle or need a ph of that range then you would not have to adjust your ph and still get to keep cories...might as well go with what you have unless of course you are after a specific species.I did some testing on my tap and pH was reading 8.0.

I would keep them lower...
Are you able to collect rainwater? I use rainwater in almost all my corytanks and have great success.

Re: pH 8.0 okay for Cory Sterbai?
Your tap water may be 8.0 but what is the pH in your aquariums? It is possible that it is lower or higher. Some types of substrate or decorative stone work could increase it higher but there is a tendency for tap water to drop some in an established tank.
My guess is that Corydoras sterbai will thrive but for breeding I would use softer more acid water.
