My trio of synodontis eupterus

Post by Brengun »

On 17th Jan, 2008 I bought three catfish that were labelled as Corydoras Melanistius but when I got them home I discovered I was the new owner of three Synodontis Eupterus. Since I only had a 2ft corydora tank prepared for them, that became their first home.

Well they soon grew out of that tank, and now they live in my 3ft tank, along with 4 clown loaches, 4 kuhli loaches, 3 gouramis, 2 angelfish, a bolivian ram, 4 longfin danios, 3 whitecloud mountain minnows, and a large Siamese algae eater.
They are just losing the variegated pattern and getting their adult spots.

The 3ft home. The tetras have been moved since the angelfish was starting to look at them for a food source. The eupterus trio inhabit the large shipwreck.

An interesting photo of how the eupterus can spread his whiskers out on a surface.

I have a new 4ft tank for my eupterus and clown loaches but I have stocked it with 3 Eigenmanni whiptails and 3 red lizard (L10a) whiptails, just to see if they will breed for me in a large undisturbed tank. In a few more months when my eupterus are looking more mature, I may take the whiptails out to another smaller 2ft 6" tank I have prepared for them, and introduce just the 3 eupterus to the 4ft tank and see if they seem interested in breeding.

They're very nice looking - quality individuals

I can't believe they were originally identified as Corys!!! Actually... i can, there's not much to surprise me really.......
Lou: Every young man's fantasy is to have a three-way.
Jacob: Yeah not with another fu**!ng guy!
Lou: It's still a three-way!
