Questions : BROCHIS BRITSKII !!!

Post by Callichthyidae »

Hello! Everyone :D
Has Everyone seen the REAL BROCHIS BRITSKII? I really love this Specie very much, but I couldn't find the REAL one anymore. The REAL one as same as all the photos in this PlanetCatfish. I used to see them at Local Fish Store in NYC 7 years ago, and after that I haven't seen them anymore. I used to buy some of them from a WHOLESALE FISH DEALER 3 years ago. I know this company from the internet, but after I got them They weren't REAL BROCHIS BRITSKII that I've always seen from any info and any photos from the internet. They just look big and fat, but they look EXACTLY as same as BROCHIS SPLENDENS, but they look much bigger than BROCHIS SPLENDENS and the body color doesn't have a bright emerald green as BROCHIS SPLENDENS. Because BROCHIS BRITSKII has to have a long and deep dorsal fins that can count much more than 12 rays, but BROCHIS SPLENDENS have NOT MORE THAN 12 rays of their dorsal fins. And, I thought that the BROCHIS that I used to get from a WHOLESALE FISH DEALER that I used to order it might be a new species that call BROCHIS SP., but when I check all info from everywhere of the internet, they don't look like any of BROCHIS SP. at all, so I don't really know. Oh! And, a month ago, my local fish store in my town they also have some BROCHIS BRITSKII for sale at $ 24.95, but when I went there to try to get them all, all of them look like all BROCHIS that I used to buy 3 years ago. So, I am really confused now why all the fish stores they try to call these BROCHIS by using BROCHIS BRITSKIIs' name, but they ARE NOT, or they might not really know HOW EXACTLY they look like, or because I don't have enough information about BROCHIS BRITSKII. But, I think that my info is correct because I've been study about this specie for a long time because I really love them very much. If anyone knows about this specie, BROCHIS BRITSKII, please! let me know. It will greatly appreciated. I am still confused very much. Please! help. :(

It's likely they buy from exporter/wholesaler lists & are supplied with something that's not the real deal & then they retail it on in good faith (as they're probably not that knowledgeable on Brochis).

I've seen them available over here on occasion but not often & thinking about it, i can't remember seeing any for a good long while.

if youy want some, a bit of local intel is required or seek out someone who keeps them to see where they got theirs - check the owners in the species page in cat-e-log

Jacob: Yeah not with another fu**!ng guy!
Lou: It's still a three-way!

I think they had B. britski at Wholesale Tropicals - they certainly had B. multiradiatus and another LARGE Brochis (at least 70mm SL) [No, I didn't check if those where genuine or mislabeled].
