I changed a filter on a tank and even tho I used the established cocoa puff media I still wanted to throw in Bio Spira for good measure.
When I went to my local fish store to get it they only had salt water Bio Spira in the fridge and some other yellow Tetra bottles in there also. At the counter when I was paying for my frozen food I asked re the freshwater Bio Spira and was told that Tetra aquired the freshwater side and that's the yellow bottles in the fridge. And that Marineland was keeping the saltwater Bio Spira.
It's called Tetra Safe Start, 10 bucks for a bottle to treat 30 gals and 25 bucks for a bottle to treat 75 gal. I bought some and used it.
I posted on the Tetra fish forum where I also belong and Tetra confirmed it's true. Altho they say there was no need for it to be in the fridge. The bottle says live bacteria do not freeze or expose to heat.
Tetra also said: there will still be BIO-Spira for saltwater, as part of Instant Ocean.
Just thought you d like to know.

Tetra is actually owned by the same company that owns Marineland. Both companies will be marketing their versions of BioSpira, for both fresh and saltwater. It no longer has to be refrigerated to be active, but I think I might test a few bottles before I give it the same big thumbs up approval I had for BioSpira.

really? Owned by the same co that owns marineland , I didn't know that.
I know what you mean, I really thought Bio Spira was great. I just do not understand how a live bacteria cannot have to be refridgerated as Tetra says?
Well I added it to the 55 so we'll see.
