Post by Anzic »

im looking for some catfish from the congo river other than the upside down catfish. anything that gets a good size but doesnt get huge, like s. brichardi. my tank mates will be scarlet kribensis, african butterfly fish, a school of congo tetras and possibly an elephant nose fish. thanks for any advice and suggestions. :D

Well to start with or are kinda nice from that area and not too big and can be obtained, but what you could do is go to one of their pages and in the distribution section hit Congo and it will give you many choices from the Congo, give that a try and then come back with any questions you may have.

This list has the 63 species in the Cat-eLog that are recorded as Congo river. There are a few newly added species that aren't in that list, because I have not been updating the occurrence records lately and Jools have been adding new species.

If you go to http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/search.php and select "congo" as the distribution, then you would get the above list. You can restrict it further by adding min/max length and family/genus, etc.

Edit: It appears that there are about 35 species that hasn't had their occurrence record set, just for River Congo. I'll see if I can get that done sometime after I get back from Holiday in about ten days time.

I think you may have to consider availability & cost as some are not imported much (or at all) & some are a little expensive.
Lou: Every young man's fantasy is to have a three-way.
Jacob: Yeah not with another fu**!ng guy!
Lou: It's still a three-way!

yes i can second that ,
its so hard to find any of the more interesting syno cats very little coming out of central african rivers there only seems to be cats from lake malawi/tang etc ,and even them are not so common .
nothing here of any interest in the north west areas !,
if by any chance anyone finds anything interesting from the syno family i would be very happy to recieve a heads up notice .

cheers kev
