Just to say hello

Post by jerry58 »

Hi my name is jerry I live in Kent UK and have kept fish for a few years now. I have a 4ft x 22"x 20" community
catfish tank it is quite well planted and a lot of bog wood it is well stocked with fish this has been running for about 1 year. I did use a Eheim wet and dry for movement of water via spray bar and a Fluval 104 at the other end for fine filtering it was running ok but not producing enough flow so i decided to up grade to a Emeim Pro 3 2080 as i looked at the Fluval FX5 and unfortunately did not fit in my cabnet.Just wondered if anyone has got one how long for and and how it is performing.
Thanks Jerry

Hi thanks for the welcome Richard B and Loachy_406

Hi Richard B the catfish i the tank are as follows
6 Syno Petricola (2 adult female. 4 small sub )
1 green phantom plec L200 (4"-5")
3 golden nuggets plec L177,L018,L081 (between 3"-5")
1 sunshine plec L014 (4"-5")
1 lep cactus plec L114 (4"-5")
3 clown loach (2"-3")
3 flatfish (2"-3")
various tetras for colour and movement.

Seems a lot for one tank but at the moment is working very well. I think what helps is lots of hiding places like bog wood and I have quite a few Victorian pipes dug out of the ground and later on when they grow bigger I will set up 5 or 6 foot tank the same as setup now to spread them about so you could call the tank a growing on tank.I can't wait till they get bigger plecos are magnificent fish and love the secretive life they live, seeing fish all the time can sometimes get a bit boring (for me)thats why I like not seeing them all the time out.I have one small pleco(2" long not on list) in the tank and have not seen for about 2-3 weeks he will be ok,I'm putting him on "whats my catfish" very soon to get an ID .I hope that is informative enough for you and pleased to talk to you any time.
Thanks Jerry

I agree, fish that are rarely seen become more special to you. Any chance of a picture - the tank sounds very nice! :D
I'm sure you will get a very fast response on the ID on this site. Nearly everyone will agree that it is by far the best catfish website ever.

Searching the forum for Eheim 2080 gives 11 posts, two of which are in this thread. None of the posts say anything negative - but then I wouldn't really expect that, since the 2080 has only been available for a short while.

I have several Eheim filters (ProII 2028, 2017, 2015) as well as two TetraTec EX1200. The latter are my latest additions to my tanks, and I'm very happy with those, since they are a lot less expensive than the Eheim ones. But other than cost, I have nothing against Eheim, and if I had enough money, I would go Eheim only.

Hi thanks for your replies to my post matsp and taksan

Thanks for the tip on searching sit just wanted to know up to date version of someone using eheim pro 3 2080 filter. You are right about the price is more expensive than the fx5 but only paid about £40 more plus the fact i did need a bit more media than the fx5 can hold looks like made the right choice for me :D
Once again thanks for your help
