Leporacanthicus sp.

I wanna show you couple shots of Leporacanthicus sp.'s whitch I have bough as L. joselimai. Im not sure anymore if that other one with smaller dots is something else than L264? L263 mayby? Sorry for underexposed photos, but these guys are quite shy yet.

I think the one with smaller dots looks like a male L263. I also believe it is the same fish as L264 for all practical purposes. L314 is a different matter since it lives somewhere else, but your fish is not L314. The smaller one with big dots is L264.

Ok, thank you. It would be nice to have that Wels Atlas 2 translated to english already. There is loads of info but really hard to get cause of language.

Agree with Havard and Richard - I especially like the SA Community.
I'm going to use these tanks as inspiration for my next tank...although not huge (30" x 18" x 18"), the depth should give me the ability add levels and some visual depth.

Thanks guys. I gotta blame my wife for those tanks decors and plants. I just take care of technical stuff and buy fish without her knowing about it.

. I've been after one of these since i got back into fish again, but am only after a small one - all the ones I come across are 4-5", which is too small for my current tank, but could be a possibility in the next tank...
Anyway, back to your photos - excellent images of a superb collection of fish.

What exactly do you want to know, I could translate a bit...

L 263 is closest, even though the color is usually a bit more brownish and in the dorsal and caudal fin it's lacking the typical clear/dark markings.

There is also from Rio Tapajós another similar Leporacanthicus sp. without number as far as I know.

Hi Karsten,

I have been looking l-welse.com earlier with many other species too. Same problem as it is with WelsAtlas, german. I have the book and also Vol1 english version, but I really would love to get my hands on Vol2 eng.

There is too much to translate here, as I have two dozen species I'd like to know more about, but thanks anyways. One thing you could check, sexing L17. How to tell them apart? I have only 3 of those but I'd like to know if I need to find more or not.
