L46 plecos male or female - location

Post by upl8dave »

Hello All,
I recently purchased 2 plecos that appear to be L46. One however (first 2 pictures, fish a) has Pectoral fins that don't resemble most L46 plecos that I've seen. Could this be a different L number? Could it be a L46 from a different location? Wild caught?
The next 2 pictures are of Fish b. which more closely resembles a true L46.
If anyone can help verify or identify these two fish and maybe make a guess at their sex, It would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Dave

Yup, these are L46. The first one looks very emaciated, though.

They are definetely H. zebras. I got quite a few offspings myself with varying patterns.

Both seems to be definite males in my opinion.

Thanks for the help. Since these pictures were taken, the first fish has been treated and is eating very well. He is also quite active. Hopefully, he will start looking filled out as time goes on.
