Planet Catfish Day Out.

Slightly off-topic again (sorry) but am i thinking correctly when i say that some of the posts similar to above are leading to a Planet Catfish day out? :D

I'm all for chaufferring a few of us about on a Saturday some time in the future - maybe do the shops like i posted about earlier (Amwell, wildwoods, M/H St Albans), or take a trip up north to do Pier & BAS? If Chrysichthys or anyone in that area or round my way is interested, let's start a separate thread with some suggestions & a possible date. if we go north we could meet up with syno-kev & anyone else from "oooop north" or do the northern m25 shops or something else???

I split this off so that we can discuss it, rather than having it interlaced with a 90+ post thread in African Catfishes.

Yes, I'm all in favour of a meetup. I'm vaguely planning to go to the CSG show on the 21st Sept, which is "oop norf", so personally I'd prefer a more local trip - I haven't been to the "north of M25" shops mentioned, but that's not to say that we can't target elsewhere as well/instead.

Am up for this too - not done any of the shops either Richard of Mats mention, so am happy to do either/both.
Only one I have done a few times is Shirley Aquatics when my dad was Birmingham way, which (Redditch) I could do in just under 2 hours from home.
Count me in! :D

I'd also like to join in, but I think I'd struggle to make it an overnighter - a lot going on at the moment - but I will keep my eye on it. Something in December or January would suit my all new [emptyish] fishroom...

Hmmm - ok, how does this sound: doing something in October & then something else in December/January? Maybe the northern M25 shops previously mentioned in October & then the Pier/BAS thing later when Jools is available & these are obviously a lot closer to him?

Any thoughts? Saturdays are generally best for me - what does everyone else think?

Sounds OK to me. Only data that I have at the moment in the Calender is a local Aquarium event on the 19th, which is a Sunday. I'm watching the kids on Saturday mornings, but I suppose with some planning, I can get out of it one way or another.

So, there are 4 saturdays in October:
4th Martin Can't do.
11th
18th I'd be pushing it to go "fish stuff" two days in a row.
25th

That leaves, for those who have responded so far, 11th and 25th.

Krakow - it's a mate's 50th and he's decided to go away for a weekend and after a bit of research came back with Poland. We are going to the concentration camp (seems a shame to be so close and not visit), but plan to just relax, drink, eat and enjoy ourselves.
It's also my birthday on the 25th, so can use the day out as an excuse for spending birthday funds :D

Krakow is really great - i'm sure you'll have a fantastic time. Whilst i was there i visited the largest importer of tanganyikans in Poland in a visit that was kindly arranged by Worton - it was superb but unfortunately i couldn't bring anything back with me. :( The eating & drinking is top notch, (dependant where you go). I diddn't get to go to a concentration camp but did shoot live rounds on a firing range for several guns (AK, Glock etc) & do extreme 4x4 offroading.

The big shopping centre is well worth a visit.

Let me know how you get on.

Hi Worton
Many thanks for the kind offer, and personally, would love to yto take you up on the offer, but don't think any of my friends would be interested in visiting a fish importers on a boy's weekend away!
Should be a good weekend - not planning on going crazy but am looking forward to some sight-seeing, with drinks and food inbetween.
Will remember to watch out for 'slivowitz'
Thanks again

I've checked the diary again (well, the wife's version this time), and I'd managed to forget that I am putting up a new garden fence and have invited my father-in-law to help on the weekend 25/26th October, which is a real shame :(

Yes, I'm planning to be there. Currently trying to figure out something that is a compromise between driving 350 miles each way on Sunday (starting very early in the morning and arriving back home well after midnight) and paying £100 for two nights in the local Travellodge - any sensible suggestions welcome.

Sorry you can't make it mats, :(
However :D

There is a CSG auction in November, or:
Maybe the Catfish Study Group's Convention in March 2009, would be an excellent alternative.
