Aspidora Pauciradiatus

Post by HayleyK »

Hi Everyone :)

First post here, so apologies if it's in the wrong place

Recently inherited a Fish Tank, with various inhabitants, amongst which was a tiny little fish I was told was a Dainty Cory, so went on a local tour of the Pet Shops to get her some more friends, to find she looked nothing like the Dainty Cory's in the shops :?:

So back home I went, and out came the computer, and after many hours?! of research, Lol, I found out she was in fact an Aspidora Puciradiatus.

So then my finger did the walking through the Yellow pages to try and find her some friends, and we didn't get very far, most of the replies ranged from "Never heard of it" to "Oh, you mean a Dainty/Pygmy Cory"

So, after this very long winded story, does anybody out there either breed these beautiful fish, or know of a breeder? She looks ever so sad and lonely, sat there on her own, it can't be good for her, so here's keeping everything crossed that somebody out there can help us
Thanks in advance

Hayley :)

According to www.tropicalfishfinder.com, Maidenhead Aquatics in Lincoln has them

[Moderator Hat on]You may by the way want to change your location setting so that you show "England" or "United Kingdom" or some such, for those outside of the UK that doesn't know that Lincolnshire is a county in the UK.

Hi,

Yes, I did enjoy looking round the website, but it's very easy to get sidetracked, and end up reading about a completely different fish, Lol

Thanks for the tip MatsP, have just phoned Maidenhead Aquatics, but they have sold out :( But, they have taken my name and number and hope to be able to order some more in for me, within two weeks. Have also added TFF to favourites :) But if possible, would still like to get some sooner if I can, or would she be ok for that long without company?

Plus have changed location to show England as well,

Thank you

Hayley :)

I expect they are not exactly the most common fish in the trade, so "keep looking" is the only advice I can give. If MA can get them, then they are probably your best bet. My guess is that the fish you currently have has been alone for much more than 2 weeks, so if it's in otherwise good condition, I wouldn't think two weeks of waiting would be too much .

Hi Mats,

Thanks for the quick reply, will keep a close eye on her, and hopefully all will be well. Not sure how long she's been on her own for, but I've had her for just over a week now. Previous owner wasn't very helpful :(

She's not very active during the day, but at feeding time she's very lively, Lol

If I'm lucky they will come in quicker, not used this MA before, but normally get all my fish from their other branch at Crowland, and I've never had a problem with their fish before

Somespecies of corydoras seem to be fine with company from other species, but others are not

This is not a Corydoras, so perhaps even a Corydoras would not do

And if you cannot provide her company, we can only hope she 'understands' (read: manages  )

A. pauciradiatus is a quite sensitive little fish; I wouldn't recommend getting more unless you're really interested in them.

Also, my experience is they do not school with Corydoras pygmaeus, the two species behaved slightly differently and basically just ignored eachother.
