Post pictures of your beloved catfish aquaria here. Also good for pictures of your (cat)fish rooms or equipment discussions. If you are posting pictures of identified catfish, please do so in the appropriate husbandry and reproduction forum above.
As always (just the first time i respond here ;) ) Beautiful pictures of beutiful fish Glenn
Out here we see even more of your catfish
but the one that always cracks me up is the one of your "platvis" (excuse spelling) standing up against that plant
Then I believe it's a freshwater flounder/sole. It's really a brackish/marine fish as far as I can tell, but they are spawning in freshwater rivers/estuaries, and then the fish will migrate to sea.
Flounder indeed, platvis is the Dutch name for the group, as tong is the correct translation of flounder.
besides, after following the link, more species of sweet water flounders might excist. I found in the middle of Uruguay, in the Rio Tacuarembó, near the village Ansina, flounders at 5 cm. The ocean was over 400 km away, as the R tacuarembo is a side rover of the R uruguay, wich waters into the Rio de la Plata. The R tacuarembó was very fast moving
A bit hard to consider this as the same species mentioned in Mats link
Bas, you are right, it is possible that it is a "freshwater only" species.
Fishbase has 9 species of the genus Trinectes, and I guess that there are further species in related genera - and of course there is a good possibility of undescribed species as well.
Thanks for the reactions!
The 2 Achirus achirus in the rio 240 tank are almost 3 years old and about 10 cm long, i don't think they'll grow any longer...
Catsandfish, you've found this great site! welcome!
Andy, i got 4 tanks, but most catfish are swimming in the rio 240 tank.
seds wrote:Hmmm, that is a lot of catfish. Is the neon tetra alone? If so, does it hang out with the pearl danios? Or is it all alone and lonesome...
Amazing danios, they looked like some sort of Kilifish to me at first. I like L021 the best.
Thanks seds for your kind reaction!
But the Neon isn't a Neon Tetra(Paracheirodon innesi) but the much smaller(3 to 3.5cm) False or Green Neon Tetra(Paracheirodon simulans).
I had a group of 6 of them in a Aqua-40 nanno-tank(about 25 liters):
Last year the 6 False Neon's were placed in the rio 240 tank, unfortunately 4 died, so now i've 2 swimming in the rio 240 and sometimes with the nanno's and danio margaritatus.
