L330's in the cave together!

Post by CanadaPleco »

Well just got back from the catfish convention a few days ago with 4 new L330's to add to the one I had already. Jools and Ingo sexed them for me, 2 males 2 females. Awesome.

Well I moved them into a new tank again yesterday just to themselves. One of the males got beat up bad, so he is now in a seperate tank to heal up. But in the tank with the other 4, there is now 2 of them in a cave together! Ingo said it would be another 10cm before they are sexually mature. Wonder what the odds of them spawning are.

They had a big temp jump in the past day and a 100% water change, so who knows. But I have my fingers crossed.

Mine do that all the time ..... but breeding Panaque's is so hard in a tank compared to a pond.

Hey Rich!

Sorry the one male isn't doing so hot... the 4 of them (along with the other two I still have!) were all in a 30 gallon tank together since I imported them. No decorations to keep the tank easier to clean. So sounds like maybe they are old enough to be posturing and juggling for the top fish position. I honestly don't think that they are big enough for real mating since they are only 5-6 inches, right?, but definitely a good sign that they are being compatible.

Continued good luck on them. Did you figure out the sex of the one you already had? And I never asked.. was that one also a full spotted?

They were only just put in the 30 gallon tank. Take a deep breath and don't jump so fast to being critical, please. He's got big tank plans for them. They're just quarantining after their long trip from the convention is all.

I do agree, Barbie, with Taksan that keeping Panaque without wood is not a good idea, even in quarantaine

However, I also realize quarantaine is usually temporarily, but in my eyes also quite often very stressfull. Especially quarantained fish - which recently had to endure a lot, should be provided with ample shelter, and the food they prefer

in the case of Panaque, these both mean wood
