cloudy eye cornea on syno

can anyone help suggest effective treatment for a syno nigromaculatus 5 inch otherwise healthy bodied fish who has had a cloudy inner cornea for a long while now i have just completed a full course with myxazin but to no success,

the clouding seems to be on the inner part of the eye just in the black middle part of the eye.
antibiotic treatment has been suggested but this treatment is not available over the shop counter ?

any ideas ???

The epithelium is layer of cells that cover the surface of the cornea. It is only about 5-6 cell layers thick and quickly regenerates when the cornea is injured. If the injury penetrates more deeply into the cornea, it may leave a scar. Scars leave opaque areas, causing the corneal to lose its clarity and luster.

Does it seem to be inside the eye, or is it on the surface? Look at the eye sideways, like with the nose of the fish pointed at you. If you can see the edge of the lens covering the white, it is a cataract or something else internal. If the white appears to be like a cap on the eye, it is external, probably infection from an injury.

If the white is external (outside of eye), keep the water of the tank very clean. Change 25% of the water at least once a week. This keeps naturally ocurring harmful bacteria and fungi populations down lower so the fish has a better chance to heal. You can also use a product called Melafix. It is a natural product that soothes and helps heal tissues.

If the white is internal, there may not be much you can do. There are antibiotics that absorb into the fish, Maracyn 2 and Kanacyn. These can get to where bacterial infection is to treat it, if it is infection. If the white is because of a cloudy cornea, this is called a cataract and is not curable. In people, cornea transplants are done. The old cloudy cornea is removed and replaced with one from a donor. This is hardly feasable in fish though. They often do quite well, even if blinded in one or both eyes. They can 'smell' their food and develop a good sense of their surroundings to know how to get around.

Cloudy eyes seems to come up with syno's more than any other kinds of catfish as least as far as I have seen.
