Axolotl Tamales?

Mexico's famous Axolotl is in serious trouble. I had dreams of catching one in the wild when I lived there but never saw any water within 5 miles of Mexico City I would go collecting in.

Sad news indeed, but something similar seems to be announced all too often at the moment :(

I have Axolotls for years now, and did some serious reading

at a survey back in 2004 a grand total of zero animals were found......that was already 4 years ago

save for some local fishermen who seem to find them still and sell them as food on the marketplace the last specimen caught by science was back in the last century I believe

yup, some trouble indeed.
it's still lited as "critically endangered" or 'insufficient data', but it won't be a stretch of imagination to label this poor creature as "extinct in the wild"
:(
