Britski, H. A. & Garavello, J. C. 2002
Parotocinclus jumbo, a new species of the subfamily Hypoptopomatinae from northeastern Brazil (Ostariophysi, Loricariidae)

Ribeiro, A. C., Andrade Melo, A. L. de & Pereira, E. H. L. 2002
A new species of Parotocinclus (Siluriformes: Loricariidae) from the rio Sao Francisco basin, southeastern Brazil.
Ichthyological Exploration of Freshwaters 13(3): 217-224.
Any of you chaps care to translate into English? If I get the jist of it, LDA25 has been described as Parotocinclus jumbo and that another species P. prata has also been described?
describe Britski and Garavello a new Harnischwelsart: Parotocinclus jumbo jet. It concerns in the Aquaristik well admitted itself "pit bulletin Harnischwels (LDA 25)". (provisional) the placement of the kind in the kind Parotocinclus may surprise some (some authors counted it to the Hypostominen), Britski and Garavello justifies this in detail among other things with the relatively bad phylogenetischen treatment of the kind Parotocinclus, which permits their opinion after the placement of P. jumbo jet in the kind. In the same expenditure of the IEF also a further Parotocinclus kind from southeast Brazil (Rio Sao Francisco basin) is described: P. prata.
English (as the titles suggest). They'll leave first thing Monday. While I'm at it, would you be interested in the other catfish paper in issue 3 of Vol. 13 (none in issue 4, but there's a smashing paper on the revision of Badidae there)? It describes a new cave-dwelling Ituglanis.
It is a bit of a pity/shame that they did not take the time to make some clean up in there and erected directly a new genus for them!!!
For sure Parotocinclus is not really appropriate for that one!
Well erecting a new genus is not something most ichthyologists take lightly. Generally, this is not done unless you have a reasonably detailed phylogenetic study to support your claim.
Most of the time, it's not worth going through all that trouble just to describe what is a clearly new species. We sometimes let someone else handle the mess.
Well I hope that they are not taking erecting new genus too lightly, otherwise it ends up in a mess. I just believe it is a shame not to make the full work. I know it is their work and get paid for describing species, too me it is taking the erection of new species lightly to place in a genus by knowing it is a mess and let someone else do the bad work while I get my name save in the record book for the named species!
