What Do Hara jerdoni Eggs Look Like?
My friend has some Hara jerdoni and I do too. He mentioned that he thinks they might have laid eggs but he doesn't know what they look like. Then, I started looking closer at my Hara jerdoni tank. I noticed some globs of something. They could be snail eggs, but there aren't very many eggs in them. Does anybody know what their eggs look like, where they place them, etc?
Thanks,
Amanda

Re: What Do Hara jerdoni Eggs Look Like?
Thank you so much! It seems my friend is a bit ahead of me. He has something already in a breeding trap. I'm going to place a breeding trap in the 10 gallon tank today. I think I have a nice mix of males and females. Some are quite wide in the body and a few are quite narrow. Wish us luck!
Amanda

Hello Amanda,
what do you feed your jerdonis with? Mine only eat bloodworms. They do not want to touch anything else and I've tried cyclops, mosquito larvaes and white mosquito larvaes
. I'm sad because they are probably not very happy with the same food all the time
. They all are pretty fat byt you know it is always better to eat something different ;).
Regards.

Hello Worton,
I tried fruit fly larvae (suggested by another hobbyist) for my Erithistids and they seem to love it. But he also warned me that they are extremely fatty. So very limited quantities will suffice. The tank contains Hara Hara's, Hara Jerdoni's and an undescribed Pseudolaguvia species and they all seem to love fly larvae. Have you tried baby brine shrimp???

Hey,
yup I've tried baby brine shrimps but I totally do not have talent to breed them and then netting little babies out of the jar is a hell.
Maybe you have any good methods for sufficient hatchery and then netting them? Usually it ends like I manage to catch 1/4 of little shrimps and all the rest is wasted :/ and I really don't like killing living animals without any reason even if this is only 1mm baby brine shrimp
.

My jerdoni's happily eat red and white mosquito larvaes and brine shrimp also.
as far as i know, they lay their eggs in moss, like Java moss or such. can't tell how the eggs look like, i'm sorry, still waiting for the first spawn

Hi Worton,
I think you should give Fruit Fly larvae a try. Its very easy to 'culture' em too.
Hi Dutchfry,
Mine s not planted. Just a lot of Driftwood, rocks and leaf litter cos Im paranoid about plants in an Erithistidae tank. Good or bad. What plants have you used????

Re: What Do Hara jerdoni Eggs Look Like?
Hi shovelnose,
my experience with Hara jerdoni is that they really like to hang in plants, most of the time near the surface (temp is 22 degrees Celsius, so not too hot).
they like Elodea densa, Java fern and they even hang in the roots of Limnobium laevigatum. they also scavenge through Java moss in search for micro organisms. in my tank there are also lots of flat rocks and wood tangles, they hide there too, but most of the time they just chill high up in a plant.
paranoid? why? you're afraid they get stuck in the plants with their fins? never happened here!

Re: What Do Hara jerdoni Eggs Look Like?
Hi Dutch Fry,
Though that is a thought
here's what Im really paranoid about. My city is suffering from lack of electricity. So we lose power every once in a while. I dont want anything that sits in the tank pumping out CO2 (Quote plants) especially when there's no power and the diffuser's not on. That's about it. Compensated the lack of plants with a lot of leaf litter. Not a very suitable replacement but will do till the situation gets better here I guess.Do you have any suggestions as to what else as I can use in there????
Though that is a thought

Re: What Do Hara jerdoni Eggs Look Like?
ah i see, that must be very frustrating from time to time!
well ehr, a substitute for aquatic plants might be plastic plants, although they look terrible imo, they don't pump out co2
